We will be featuring many of the folks behind the incredible companies that we partner with. Today, we have Hannah Chon from Fersk Self-Care sharing her exciting story with us.
Who are you and what is your company?
I'm Hannah, the founder and creator behind Fersk Self-Care. Fersk handcrafts sustainable self-care products, curated with ingredients sourced from plants. Fersk is committed to minimizing our carbon footprint. With every purchase placed, our partners at TreeEra Co plants a tree. We’re on a mission to create a community that is committed to taking care of themselves while protecting our home where the ingredients are sourced from.
I'm a full-time student at George Brown College, part-time personal trainer at F45, and full-time entrepreneur. I'm currently finishing up my last semester and decided to take on Fersk full-time to continue to grow our community of self-care enthusiasts!
How did Fersk Self-Care get started?
I started Fersk in December of 2020. During that year, there was a huge focus on health, for obvious reasons. I had lost both of my jobs during the pandemic and was going through personal matters that were heavily impacting my head space. Filling my time being productive was my top priority - yet I wanted to do something that mattered. The business idea sparked when I looked down at my chipped, broken and fragile nails from all of the trips to the nail salon. Ever since that moment, I was on the hunt for a natural oil that helped nourish my nails. Yet, I could not find anything that not only helped my nails but contained good-quality ingredients. That was the moment Fersk was born. I tested multiple different combinations of ingredients until I created the perfect combination of oils and herbs that were good for the body inside and out. Fast forward one year later and I now curate a bunch of natural products that act as small self-care reminders that are good for you, your home, and our planet.
What challenges have you faced?
I think every entrepreneur can list off a bunch of challenges they've faced and continue to face, let alone adding a pandemic to it all. There's the obvious challenges we go through like financial and legal (we know how fun these can be). But the challenge that affects me the most is balancing my time. I feel like there's not enough time in the day to get everything done, as well as give myself the time to rest and spend time with my loved ones. Which adds on a challenge of staying true to my business model of self-care. So in order to practice self-care while operating a business, I make sure to delegate my time accordingly, dedicate specific down times, and remind myself that small progress is still progress.
What are you the most proud of?
When I launched my business a little more than a year ago, I wouldn't be able to imagine exceeding my sales goals, or expanding internationally, and so much more. I'm most proud of the work I’ve put into my business that’s given me the opportunities I’ve had so far. As a young entrepreneur, it's amazing to see the support and love you can generate through your passion and hard work.
What else are you passionate about and enjoy?
All of my friends know me as the adventurous adrenaline junkie. When I'm not working or studying, you can most definitely find me in nature. I'm an avid cyclist, hiker, and snowboarder. The most spontaneous and memorable trip I've done in my 24 years of living was deciding to cycle across Canada from St. John's, Newfoundland to Victoria, B.C. My next major trip I'd like to complete some day is climbing Mt. Everest (hopefully, I can find the time to train for it)!
